B737 LDG BRAKE & FRANGIBLE FITTING

GEAR LEVER를 "UP"에 둘 때, WHEEL은 계속해서 돌고 있을까? 

아니다.

GEAR를 RETRACTION하면서 타이어의 회전을 멈춰줘야 한다.

 

MAIN LDG(GEAR RETRACT BRAKING)

메인 랜딩기어의 RETRACTION중 NORMAL BRAKE SYSTEM이 압력을 받으면 ALTERNATE BRAKE SELECTOR VALVE가 LDG RETRACT PRESSURE를 ALTERNATE BRAKE SYSTEM으로 보낸다. GEAR RETRACT PRESSURE는 ALTERNATE BRAKE METERING VALVE를 브레이크가 적용된 위치로 작동시킨다. 이렇게 하면 휠 웰에 들어가기전 휠 스핀이 멈춘다.

 

NOSE LDG(WHEEL SPIN BRAKE PAD)

노즈 휠의 경우 따로 브레이크가 없다. 대신, 노즈휠 랜딩기어 휠 웰 내부 상부에는 AMM에서는 NOSE WHEEL SPIN BRAKES (aka. SNUBBER) 

 

이렇게 브레이크를 기계적 또는 물리적으로 잡아서 휠 스피드를 줄이고 기어를 접는다 해도, 타이어 자체의 문제가 발생한다면 휠 웰에 피해를 가할 위험 요소가 남아있다. 

 

이를 위해 휠 웰 OPENING 쪽에 FRANGIBLE FITTING이 장착되어 있다.

 

이륙 중 타이어의 손상으로 인해 TREAD가 벗겨지고 RETRACTION BRAKE SYSTEM 또한 고장이 날 경우, SPINNING TIRE의 LOOSE TREAD가 WHEEL WELL 내부 COMPONENTS를 손상시킬 수 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해 기어가 RETRACTION중 FRANGIBLE FITTING을 HIT하게 되면 FITTING이 부러지면서 MAIN GEAR ACTUATOR의 HYDRAULIC PRESSURE가 FRANGIBLE FITTING LINE을 따라 방출 되어 더이상 RETRACTION하지 못하고 바퀴는 중력과 자중에 의해 FREE FALL DOWN된다. 부러진 FITTING은 교환하기 전에는 RETRACTION을 시킬 수 없다.

 

Purpose

The frangible fitting removes up pressure from the main landing gear actuator when a damaged, spinning tire moves into the main landing gear

wheel well. This prevents damage to components in the wheel well.

 

Location

There is a frangible fitting on the outboard side of both wheel well rings in the main landing gear wheel well.

 

Physical Description

The frangible fitting is a normally closed valve. It opens when a force removes the lever from the fitting.

 

Functional Description

The frangible fitting operates during this sequence of events:

• A section of tread partially separates from a main landing gear tire

• Landing gear starts to retract

• Gear retract braking has a fault and does not stop the wheel before it moves into the wheel well

• The section of tread removes the lever from the frangible fitting

• Frangible fitting opens

• Up pressure is removed from the main landing gear actuator

• Main landing gear that has the damaged tire stops retraction and moves towards the extended position

• Flow limiter in the up pressure line limits the flow to 8 gpm (30 lpm) from the volume fuse to the frangible fitting and MLG actuator

• Volume fuse in the up pressure line closes when the hydraulic flow through the frangible fitting increases to 180-250 cubic inches (3-4liters). This stops the loss of fluid from the hydraulic system.
